Reporting by the mainstream media about the East Timor crisis has seen many root causes omitted. Those media groups in the nations (such as the US, UK and Australia) who have supported Indonesia (who backs the paramilitaries that went on a killing rampage since the vote at the end of August 1999 that overwhelmingly resulted in a vote for independence), have neglected to report about their country's long time support, to avoid accountability.
