Cuba's human rights record has been criticized for a very long time. A Human Rights Watch report highlights very well the problems.
However, it is interesting to note that one of the points made is that while the United State's flawed embargo against Cuba has been criticized by almost every government around the world, it has been sometimes been used as justification by Cuba to repress human rights.
